Nitrosoarenes have attained immense research interest owing to their diversified coordinating ability, enriched reactivity on metallation and redox participation. In this context, electron reserving capability and non-spectator behavior of analogous benzofuroxans and benzodifuroxans (BDF) (ring-chain tautomeric forms of 1, 2-dinitrosoarenes and 1, 2, 3, 4-tetranitrosoarenes, respectively) have recently been explored. Modulation of electronic components of these ligands with varying coordination situations unfolded variegated functionalization processes (Scheme 1) through metal-ligand cooperativity.
