The University of Illinois Department of Chemistry has been using climate survey tools, town hall meetings, and one-on-one meetings with the departmental community to assess and address climate and diversity-related challenges. We recently drafted a Diversity and Climate Action Plan as a roadmap to cultural change. We identified four remedies that can be adopted in the academic setting to address the cultural changes needed in the chemical sciences; Communication, Training, Expectations, and Accountability.
