Vegetation plays a key role in ecological systems and quality of life. As populations gravitate to urban areas, the dynamics between vegetation, social structures and human health continue to interact. Urban green spaces (e.g. tree cover, parks, gardens) have a multidimensional influence on human health and well-being. Using ecosystem services as a guiding framework, this presentation discusses how the benefits of green spaces are linked to social determinants of health. For example, this topic is discussed in the context of the onset of health disparities, social cohesion and the factors that support health equity.
