Chile´s economy depends in part on the export of fruits, wines and other agricultural produces. In Central Chile is located the Cohort del Maule, where10,000 people are followed since 2016. Our main objectives are to assess cardiovascular and cancer conditions and their exposures and evaluate changes over the next 10 years.
This presentation has shown chemical exposures in workers from the MAUCO cohort. Air passive monitoring describes the presence of pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB). Were detected high levels of chlorpyrifos, diazinon, pendimethalin without any changes during the year; also, high levels of PAH in winter seasons, and some PCB as a baseline.
The workers (6,463 participants) were more female (60%), with low educations (50 %), smoking (32%), exposure to pesticides at work (43.3%), and limited use of personal protection elements (3.2%). Men applying pesticides show a high risk of dyslipidemia (OR=1.4, IC 95% 1.02-1.84). Interestingly, agricultural women have a high risk of diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and dyslipidemia (OR=2.5; IC 95% 1.04-5.9; OR=1.8; IC 95% 1.3 -2.5; OR=1.12; IC 95% 0.9-1.4; .02-1.84), comparing with no agricultural workers. Is pending to evaluate the exposure to endocrine disruptors by biomonitoring and their implications in women's health.
