Dibenzo[b,h][1,6]naphthyridines are important class of nitrogen heterocycles with significant biological properties and pharmacological activities. For instance, dibenzo[b,h][1,6]naphthyridines are known to exhibit several interesting medicinal properties including anticancer, antiviral, anti-HIV and anti-inflammatory activities.1,2 In addition, 2-acetylaminobenzaldehyde-derived dibenzo[b,h][1,6]naphthyridines have found application in fluorescent DNA labeling.3 Owing to the biological significance of these compounds, we have developed a microwave-assisted one-pot, two-step reaction sequence for the synthesis of dibenzo[b,h][1,6]naphthyridines in good yields.
