Organic dithiocarbamates have received profound applications in the synthesis of several building blocks1, as protecting groups in peptide synthesis2, and serve as anticancer agents3, monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) inhibitors4, as well as antimethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) agents5. Accordingly, the synthesis of these compounds stands as one of the promising areas of research attracting interests of synthetic organic chemists. Traditional synthesis of aryl dithiocarbamates often requires stoichiometric and toxic organometallic reagents,6 harsh reaction conditions,7 expensive ligands and transition metal catalysts,8 owing to which these methods are not desirable from the sustainability point of view. Accordingly, we have developed a metal-free, mild, efficient and sustainable one-pot three-component coupling between diaryliodonium triflates, carbon disulfide, and cyclic and acyclic aliphatic amines resulting in the formation of biologically active S-aryl dithiocarbamates. The reaction exhibits broad scope and products are obtained in good to excellent yields. Importantly, in silico analysis revealed that the synthesized compounds accomplished drug-likeness and lead-like properties that are requisite for drug potency, in turn making them promising candidates for further exploration of their efficacy using biological assays.9
