The solid-phase copper-curcumin nanocomposites were synthesized using the novel method in which the chemically reduced nanoparticles were capped with suitable coating agents. The main aim of synthesizing these nanocomposites is to achieve the localized and sustained release of therapeutic agents which can be accomplished by the use of an appropriate nano-carrier polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Thus, the requirement of frequent drug administrations is decreased. PVA also has the capability to target at specific sites. Curcumin acts as both reducing and capping agents thereby stabilizing the copper nanoparticles more effectively. It also enhances the efficiency of the copper nanoparticles as a drug. Thus, these nanocomposites can be used as nanovehicles for targeted delivery. The synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The present work focuses on synthesizing and evaluating the bactericidal effect of copper-curcumin nanocomposites. The antibacterial activities of these nano-composites revealed that Bacillus subtilis (13.0 ± 3.0 mm) showed higher susceptibility than Psuedomonas aeruginosa (12 ± 3.0 mm).
