<p>Manufacturing enterprises have accumulated a large amount of data in the process of product design and manufacturing which has become a knowledge resource. Any mechanical product is manufactured by means of multiple processes and procedures; during this, process information is coded in part programs and the logic that was using the creation of the code is normally lost, which is impossible to track as it is badly formalized. This unavailability of appropriate and standard knowledge of part processing leads to the situation where it entails being recreated the information every time a similar part is to be manufactured, hence increasing the process planning time. However, if this process design knowledge is handled in two steps: firstly, by fetching the information and coding it in a standardized structure; secondly, saving it in a suitable form can facilitate in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of process design for available parts and as well as in anticipating the new parts by using the previous information related to the process including the one coming from the shopfloor. The most technical issue is to regain these parameters associated with the processes. After the first use, it would require configurations and models to be restored. The proposed work concerns capturing the unstructured information from the existing part programs and regaining this by using process simulation (VERICUT). Through the extraction of theoretical and graphical geometric data, the interactions between the operations can be analyzed. The material removed from the stock using VERICUT will reveal this geometric information thus making this implicit geometric information explicit. The structured knowledge will include origin, feed-rate, rotating speed of the tool, rapid movement, cutting tool and material knowledge, and some geometric information of the process. &nbsp;The proposed approach based on simulations and mathematical programming logic will improve flexibility by formalizing the available operational knowledge. &nbsp;One of the major advantages is that there will be no need to worry about the dialect of a machine, allowing less experienced operators capable of producing reasonable process plans with minimum efforts. Reuse of the process knowledge is possible through this procedure by separating it in an organized and understandable small portion via breaking the linearity between operations. The application of this approach will be a new paradigm to improve the responsiveness of process planning at the shopfloor level. To illustrate the applicability of the proposed approach, a case study will be carried out on real industrial part programs.&nbsp;</p>

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
