Development of new paradigms for manufacturing systems—such as Cyber-Manufacturing Systems, Additive Manufacturing (AM), Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT)—has been accelerated by the increased demand for more personalized, smarter, and more sustainable products with the rapid growth of the industrial internet and cyber-physical technologies. However, such systems usher&nbsp;in new serious security challenges due to their enlarged accessibility and connectivity. Also, the sheer volume and pervasiveness of data allow&nbsp;system security more vulnerable against insiders and outsiders.To address such security issues in manufacturing systems, the blockchain technology has been proposed by numerous researchers. The blockchain technology is a new security defensive mechanism based on a decentralization approach that brings a new possibility to security, resiliency, and efficiency of various systems. It can enable manufacturing systems to have more agile value chains, faster product innovations, closer customer relationships, and quicker integration with the IIOT and cloud technology. In addition, a system can benefit from the blockchain by lowering the cost of trade with a trusted contract monitored without intervention from a third party.However, research regarding the use of the blockchain technology in manufacturing systems has only begun in&nbsp;the past few years. At the same time, the scope of related research has been widened as a system architecture requires a different strategy for each unique system. As a result, research results of using the blockchain technology in manufacturing systems have been disseminated through a wide range of different outlets. Therefore, it becomes difficult for researchers and practitioners to keep track of all the new findings reported in various publications.&nbsp;This paper presents a survey that addresses how manufacturing systems can adopt the blockchain technology while maintaining their production capacity, flexibility, and cost-efficiency. To conduct a recent and relevant analysis of the research trend, this survey reviewed 148 articles of major relevance from 380 publications, presented between 2018 and 2021. To help organizing the findings, five manufacturing systems striving to achieve the goal of Industry 4.0 are defined. Various approaches using the blockchain technology are classified to provide system model-based analyses. Each system model's trend and strategy in employing the blockchain technology are discussed. Also, to present the trend history of research for blockchain technology in manufacturing systems, a technology roadmap—a visualization of the chronological history of the technology—has been developed. The road map is used to draw a conclusion that explains the research trends and presents opportunities for future studies.

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
