Solid state electrolytes are promising materials for using in lithium batteries for applications of electric vehicles and electric aircraft.&nbsp;Compared to liquid electrolytes, a battery with solid electrolyte has the advantages of higher energy density and better safety. The lithium ionic conductivity of inorganic solid electrolyte materials ranges typically from&nbsp;10−5&nbsp;S/cm&nbsp;to 10−2&nbsp;S/cm at room temperature.&nbsp;Some of the commonly studied solid electrolyte materials are (a) sulfide compounds (e.g. Argyrodite, LGPS, LPS), (b) garnet structure oxides (e.g. LLZO), (c) NASICON-type phosphate glass ceramics (e.g., LAGP), (d) oxynitrides (e.g. LIPON), and (e) polymers (e.g, PEO).&nbsp;Among these materials Argyrodites, Li6PS5X (X=Cl, Br, I), are considered to be&nbsp;among the most promising&nbsp;solid-state&nbsp;electrolytes&nbsp;for&nbsp;solid-state batteries. Among Argyrodites, Li6PS5Cl0.5Br0.5 crystalline material has high ionic conductivity (e.g., 3.5 mS/cm at room temperature), good processability and excellent electrochemical stability.&nbsp;As reported in literature this material&nbsp;has higher ionic conductivity than&nbsp;Li6PS5Cl and&nbsp;Li6PS5Br.&nbsp;It is also reported in literature that the palletization pressure and operating pressure and temperature significantly affect the ionic conductivity of argyrodite electrolytes and the cell performance. The palletization pressure directly affects the electrolyte porosity and interface resistances, and therefore the cell performance. Low operating cell pressure reduces the apparent ionic conductivity due to poor contact between the electrolyte and electrodes. The temperature is also one of the important cell operational factors that significantly affects the electrolyte conductivity and cell performance. The focus of this paper is on Li6PS5Cl0.5Br0.5 crystalline electrolyte material, and the aims of this study are to systematically investigate effects of the palatalization pressure and operating pressure and temperature on the ionic conductivity of this material. The Biologic SP-150 potentiostat is used to measure the ionic conductivity of electrolyte using the Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) method. For this purpose, symmetry cells (electrolyte sandwiched between two stainless steel plates) are made. For the EIS measurement, 10 mV AC excitation voltage is applied with frequency range of 1 MHz to 1 Hz. The results are presented for five palatalization pressures of 180 MPa, 360 MPa, 540 MPa, 720 MPa, and 900 MPa. Three operating pressures of 10 MPa, 25 MPa, and 50 MPa are examined for each palletization pressure. For each operating pressure three operating temperatures of 25°C, 50°C and 75°C are examined. Three repetitions are considered for each measurement. The results of this study will help to understand the range of palatalization and operating pressures of all-solid-state lithium sulfur batteries made with Li6PS5Cl0.5Br0.5 crystalline electrolyte material.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
