Applicability assessment of the current accident analysis codes and tests for CAP1400Applicability assessment and validation of the accident analysis codes is an important work for developing large and advanced pressurized water reactor CAP1400. To conduct the applicability assessment of the current accident analysis codes and tests for CAP1400, the Hierarchical Two-Tiered Scaling (H2TS) methodology, which has been used for design of AP1000, was introduced in this paper.At first, phenomena identification and ranking table (PIRT) of CAP1400 for small break loss of coolant accident (SBLOCA) was established. Then applicability assessing of the available single effect tests and integral effect tests, validating of computer code and assessing of the design margin was conducted based on the PIRT established in the former step.According to the applicability assessing, it is concluded that NOTRUMP code and the APEX and SPES-2 tests are basically applicable for the licensing analysis of CAP1400 SBLOCA. In order to further investigate the important phenomena occurred in the process of CAP1400 passive core cooling, one new integral passive core cooling testing facility is needed to validate the design of CAP1400 and the codes. So a new integral passive core cooling testing facility was implemented, which was designed with 1/3 scaled height and equal pressure and called ‘ACME’ (Advanced Core-cooling Mechanism Experiment).
