<p align="left">Self-excited oscillation is a method to make a resonator vibrate at its natural frequency. This method is widely applied in vibration-type sensing. Self-excited oscillations are produced due to negative damping, phase shift, time delay, and so on. A method to positively utilize the self-excited oscillation is the application of negative velocity feedback to produce the negative damping effect. However, it has distinctly a drawback that the feedback signal is made by the derivative of the displacement signal with respect to time, which amplifies the sensor noise signal with high-frequency. The amplified noise may do harm to the system. Generally speaking, the signals cannot be amplified when we use feedback with phase shift or time delay. A nano cutting procedure based on a vibrating cantilever-type cutter is efficient when the response frequency is near the natural frequency of the cutter. Therefore, the method of self-excited oscillation is applied by using displacement feedback with phase shift because of its superiority in nanoscale vibration with high-frequency noise. In this research, we apply a phase-shifter into a feedback loop to produce self-excited oscillation in the cantilever. By considering the equation of feedback base on phase-shifter and the equation of motion of the cantilever simultaneously, we investigate the range of phase shift which can produce self-excited oscillation in the resonator.</p>

About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
