<p class="MsoNormal">Microfluidics has been widely used in biomedical and chemical engineering because of its advantages of small volume consumption of reagents, fast reaction speed and portability. Rapid mixing at microscale has been proved to be a useful tool in the application such as DNA synthesis and point of care detection. However, the nature of microfluidic channel brings out the challenge and difficulties for mixing at microscale because the flow is laminar inside micromixer with the Reynold number is Re&lt;1. Thus, slow molecule diffusive phenomenon dominates the mixing and requires longer time and channel. Therefore, it is highly needed that the effective mixing between two fluids can be realized rapidly to increase the efficiency of lab-on-chip mixer with biological or chemical mission of diagnostics and reaction for reagents. In this work, a micromixer integrated with magnet was developed and the experiment was conducted to observe the mixing performance between magnetic fluid and water stream. Numerical modelling was established using commercial software and validated by experiment. Parametric study of simulation was conducted to discuss the effect of placement angle of magnet and width of magnet on the mixing efficiency between magnetic fluid and distilled water. It was found the pressure difference and resulted transfer momentum generated by the magnetic flow causes its mixing with distilled water. The developed micromixer and mixing mechanism will be of great potentials and insight for the mixing of reagents with blood in biological application.</p>

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
