<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify">Water hammer being the scientist interest since 120 years. In that times the great works of Frizell, Joukovsky, Allievi or Gibson were published. Since then many works were written about this phenomenon, but in none of them, the full analytical solution were presented of a set of partial differential equations (continuity equation and the equation of motion) describing this type of flow. This study compares analytical models of water hammer (quasi-steady solutions as Rich and Jović one, as well as solutions taking into account frequency-dependent friction: Holmboe, Muto-Takahashi and Mei-Jing) with the results simulated with the help of the in-house water hammer modeling program based on the method of characteristics. Mei-Jing's solution has been revised to include the impact of line packing. For all analytical models, formulas for wall shear stress were determined and compared with the results of numerical simulations. Additionally, the usability of the newly developed analytical water hammer solution for the flow accelerating from rest was tested. This type of solution was not known before. Selected inverse Laplace transformations of complex functions appearing in a complete analytical solution, which may allow for the development of a complete analytical solution in the future, will also be presented and discussed.</p>

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
