Flow past two different airfoils (NACA0012, A-airfoil) at low Reynolds numbers is investigated by using large eddy simulation. The flow around the airfoil exhibits very different characteristics depending on the Reynolds number. The aviation industry has been working on high Reynolds number areas of Re≥10^6 over the past few years. However, due to recent advances in MAVs, researching on low Reynolds numbers has become a necessity. Therefore, in this study, the flow characteristics around various airfoil shapes in the low Reynolds region are reported and provided through CFD analysis.A-Airfoil analyzed by the LESFOIL project, which can be said to be a shape specialized for research, and a generally well-maintained NACA 0012 airfoil shape were selected as subject targets. WALE was used as the sub-grid scale model. Fractional step was used as pressure-velocity coupling at A-Airfoil, and the NACA 0012 used simple method. Both were analyzed with 2nd order implicit and the AOA was 5° and 13.3°, respectively.For validation, the result of the NACA 0012 result of Re=10e4 was compared against the existing literature. The present results show that in the case of Cp, suction and pressure side were almost similar even at the end of the trailing edge. By analyzing Cf, the laminar separation and reattachment, which are characteristics of low Reynolds number flow, were well captured.NACA 0012 was able to confirm the periodicity of the Cd and Cl values. On the other hand, A-Airfoil shows little local periodicity in the case of Cd and Cl.More comparisons between two airfoils would be given in the presentation.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
