The Admission volute significantly impacts on the inflow conditions and aerodynamic performance of the through flow of steam turbines. The aerodynamic performance and flow field of the Tangential Admission Volute (TAV) and Tangential Admission Volute coupled with Downstream Vanes (TAV-DV) were experimentally measured and numerically simulated in this paper. The total pressure loss, outlet airflow angle and mass flow rrate of the TAV and TAV-DV at different inlet total pressures were measured. The detailed flow fields of the experimental TAV and TAV-DV at different boundary consitions was numerically investigated using three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and SST turbulence model. The accuracy of the numerical method was validated by comparison to the experimental data. The obtained results show that the mass averaged airflow angle downstream TAV and TAV-DV usually keep constant as 152.0deg and 166.6deg when the inlet total pressure increases. The more uniformity of the mass averaged airflow angle downstream TAV-DV comparison to the downstream TAV is obtained. The total pressure loss and mass flow rate of the TAV and TAV-DV increases with the increase of the inlet total pressure. With the increase of the inlet total pressure, the total pressure loss of the TAV increases from 0.73% to 1.64%.&nbsp; The total pressure loss of the TAV-DV increases from 0.82% to 2.66% with the inlet total pressure increases. The present work provides the reference for the performance analysis of the tangential admission volute for steam turbines.
