<p>Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbomachinery stages has recently been brought to attention due to the potential increase in fidelity and the reduced dependency of the flow prediction to modeling. However, such simulations are often affordable only for a reduced periodic sector. This causes issues for real applications as frequently the number of blades across at least one of the blade rows is a prime number. As a result, full 360° simulations are required for appropriate flow dynamics reproduction, which implies a prohibitive computational cost. Thus, to make such a tool affordable to an industrial context, it is clearly necessary to find ways to reduce the cost of the method, one approach being the reduction of the domain size.</p><p>The profile transformation approach is one specific method that allows to simulate a single passage per blade row, thus decreasing the domain size. It has been devised and validated in a RANS/URANS context and consists in rescaling the flow field at the rotor stator interface in order to comply although the domains have different angular distances. Thanks to this flow re-scaling, periodic flow conditions can be applied on the azimuthal limits of both domains while retaining only one passage per row. In the following, the method is assessed and revisited in the context of LES. This single passage LES approach is then used to address a set of cases of increasing complexity ranging from academic convection of a vortex across an interface to the simulation of an industrial turbine.</p>

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
