<p>sCO2 Power cycles have been investigated for several years by government, non-profit and commercial entities due to the promise of higher efficiency, compact equipment, faster start-ups and other commercial benefits to the power sector.&nbsp;&nbsp; One of the key technologies to make sCO2 power cycles work is the use of a Rankine cycle with a sCO2 compressor operating near the CO2 liquid-vapor dome.&nbsp; The greatest cycle benefit is predicted when the compressor is operated closer to the dome; however, as CO2 thermodynamic properties change rapidly and in a non-linear fashion, operation near the dome has significant challenges.&nbsp;&nbsp; The team of GE Research and Southwest Research Institute have designed, built and operated a state of the art sCO2 compressor for a 10MWe sCO2 power cycle.&nbsp; This compressor was developed using Computational Fluid dynamics codes with real gas properties and incorporates movable inlet guide vanes to allow high efficiency over a wide operating range. &nbsp;The test conditions have operating points near the liquid-vapor dome to verify performance and operating parameters in the region of high non-linear CO2 property variation.&nbsp; This paper will present performance measurements and discuss the observations from the testing focusing primarily on uncertainty analysis and overall challenges with measuring operating parameters near the dome with rapid thermodynamic property changes.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
