This article discusses the technique for approximating and presenting the characteristics of gas turbine engines (GTE) compressors. The aim of this study is to improve the efficiency of processing GTE test results. &nbsp;The paper analyzes various ways of approximating, presenting and generalizing the characteristics of compressors and identifies their main advantages and disadvantages. &nbsp;Based on the performed analysis, a method is proposed for approximating the characteristics of compressors, considering the requirements of the process of identification of the GTE model. The resulting approximation method is based on the use of equations in a polar coordinate system, which allow approximating the efficiency isolines and pressure lines of the compressor characteristics. Efficiency isolines are approximated by an equation based on the improved ellipse equation in polar coordinates. The approximation process consists in the selection of the coefficients of the corresponding equations based on the method of least squares. The study analyzed the possibility of using the developed method in conjunction with the CAE-system "ASTRA" (developed at Samara University).The developed approximation technique on the experimental characteristics of the low- and high-pressure compressor of the NK-361 engine was tested. The estimation of the quality of the approximation was carried out using the standard deviation. It has been demonstrated that the obtained approximating functions describe the experimental data quite well. The obtained values of standard deviation ​​were less than 10%.
