<p>The following paper focuses on the dynamic behavior of hermetic squeeze film dampers (HSFD) that utilize compliant members in the support structure bounding the damper fluid. More specifically, the current paper advances an engineering design modification to the existing HSFD concept, which is aimed at rendering the dynamic force coefficients, namely stiffness and damping, &nbsp;frequency independent. The analytical study leverages commercial FEA based software to conduct several 2-way FSI simulations of various damper architectures ultimately uncovering the design features and configuration needed for constant linear frequency independent force coefficients. The FSI model uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in combrination with structural finite element design tools to calculate dynamic fluid pressures within the damper cavities and the resulting influence on cavity volume changes. In addition to the FSI model, the work constructs a simplified reduced order model yielding a more computationally efficient design tool while accounting for the key elements of the physics. The results show a damper configuration with minimal frequency dependacy of the stiffness and damping coefficeints whe incorporating pass through channels in combination with accumulator volumes. The paper also uses the new and improved design approach of the HSFD to put forth a notional bearing design integrating&nbsp;the new damper architecture.&nbsp;</p>
