&nbsp; &nbsp;Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) has entered in phase 2 in 2020. In this situation ship performance in actual seas is becoming important more than ever.&nbsp; &nbsp;As the energy saving bow shape in actual seas, the authors are developing the bow shape named “COVE”. COVE is aimed to improve the performance in waves without deteriorating the performance in calm sea by the transformation above the static swell up at the target speed. The shape above the static swell up is concave so that the bow reduces the waves reflected forward because the most concave line draws the fine triangle shape, instead of the bluntness shape of the original.&nbsp; &nbsp;In this paper COVE is applied to JBC: Japan Bulk Carrier. The parameters of COVE are examined and the shape is optimized for JBC. The effect of COVE is validated by the tank tests in terms of the wave length, the wave angle, the wave height, and the ship speed.&nbsp;&nbsp;As a result, it is clarified that COVE reduces the added resistance in waves about thirty percent in head waves compared with the original shape. The validity is verified by the radiating wave shape and the side wall wave form recoded by video camera in the tests.

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
