Offshore engineering projects require the management of a huge amount of heterogeneous data - among others metocean, geotechnical, environmental, cartographic – which require a data model, data visualization and data analytics features on a common geographic basis. A Digital Data Platform (here called DDP) has been developed on a GIS ambient not only with the aim to speed up the engineering design process (i.e. minimization of routine operations), but also prevent misalignment of the data originating from different sources and any potential loss of information. The proposed extension exploits the potential of a geographic information system to be used as a graphical user interface to allow the user the possibility to: i) manage and view data from different sources where data is provided at different times and format into a common system, ii) administer its revision, iii) allow data analytics and statistics, iv) easily share and evaluate the impact of the modification on derived results and v) perform basic engineering analysis with models and formulas managed by proper widgets.The system has been designed to be modular, totally scalable, allowing any extension to the geodatabase whenever required to accommodate new data type, and implemented with engineering tools (i.e. GIS-widgets) ranging from simple analytical formulas to fully featured simulation numerical models that can be executed as external programs. In its present stage of development the Platform manages the following database for offshore project design: i) metocean data (i.e. wave, current, wind climate and extreme data, weather and hydrology), ii) geotechnical, geophysical, bathymetric and topographic data; iii) cartographic data (e.g. coastline, orthophotos, coastal structures geometries).The proposed development represents a step forward on the definition of a common specification and dictionary for offshore project execution overcoming the current bottlenecking and inefficiency on the design phases between the project owner and the engineering contractor. The paper illustrates “what” and “how” and in particular: i) the geodabase framework,&nbsp; ii) the useful parameters for offshore engineering design, and iii) widgets implementation. Its application on a case study project with practical examples will be presented also to demonstrate the increased efficiency compared to non-GIS approaches.

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
