<p style="margin: 0mm 0mm 0pt">In the case of vessels moored at a wharf, damages such as drifting and wash up on the wharf due to the breaking of the mooring lines are occurred by tsunamis. In previous research, authors have proposed tsunami protection measures to mooring vessels such as the install more mooring tethers (called below, IMMT) and the floating tsunami protection wharf (called below, FTPW). In the case of the IMMT measures, it is clarified that the effect is limited, but the synergy to FTPW is expected. In the case of the FTPW measures, it is clarified that it is effective against wash up on a quay of vessels. However, it is possible that the protective effect is reduced by the reflecting flow occurring at the bottom of the FTPW. Thus, the authors propose the deep draft type FTPW. The depth of the deep draft type FTPW gets deeper than the normal FTPW. Thereby, the reflecting flow at the bottom of the FTPW does not occur, and it is possible that the protection performance is improved more than the normal FTPW. However, if the draft gets deeper than the normal FTPW, it is possible that the floating performance is reduced. In this study, the authors investigated the floating performance and tsunami protection performance of the deep draft type FTPW using the numerical simulation. The MPS (Moving Particle Semi-implicit) method is used as the numerical simulation method. The investigation is carried out by three-dimensional simulations. Finally, the usefulness and some issues of the deep draft type FTPW are shown.</p>

A Basic Study on the Protection Performance of the Deep Draft Type Floating Tsunami Protection Wharves for Mooring Vessels

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
