<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; line-height: 140%; text-indent: 5.5pt">Structural failures may cause significant economic losses. Defects from welding can lead to unexpected fracture of structures even under the design load. Since welding is mainly used in shipbuilding, fatigue strength evaluation of weld metal is essential. In the case of design of ship, it is important to consider the integrity of the plate by applying Engineering Critical Assessment(ECA), which is a method to evaluate various structures with embedded crack, surface crack and multiple crack. Among the parameters for the structural integrity, BS7910, which is guidance for assessing the acceptability of flaws on metallic structures, deal with stress intensity factor solution. In addition, BS7910 shows various flaw interaction rule. In this study, the stress intensity factor solutions in a plate with multiple cracks are evaluated. Target structure is a simple plate subjected to tensile and bending loads, and analysis is carried out using ABAQUS. Also, the results are validated against previous studies available in literatures. Based on the study, the distance criteria for multiple crack in PD6493 and BS 7910 are found to be overly conservative. Therefore, a parametric investigation with regard to a distance between multiple cracks are examined to reduce the conservatism in existing standards.</p><p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; line-height: 140%; text-indent: 5.5pt">Keywords: Stress intensity factor, Flaw interaction rule, Multiple crack</p>

This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
