<p>C-CORE initially developed the Iceberg Loads Software (ILS) to determine ice loads for the design of the Hebron GBS platform. The ILS framework has since been adapted for assessing iceberg loads on other structures such as the West White Rose Platform, subsea protection structures, pipelines laid on the seabed and floating production structures (spars and FPSOs). When the ILS was developed, the available iceberg geometry dataset (collected in the 1980s) was relatively limited, which required certain assumptions (i.e. flat wall interaction) and parametrizations (i.e., length distribution, length/draft/mass relationships, eccentricity, etc.) in the formulation of the tool. A limited number of full (sail and keel) 3D iceberg profiles were collected in the 1980s for use in engineering analysis. Renewed iceberg profile collection began in 2012, with ongoing improvements in the data collection methodology leading to 134 iceberg profiles collected in 2019, bringing the total to 200 from 2012 onwards. The profile data were collected using LiDAR for the iceberg sail and multibeam sonar for the keel. The ILS has been updated using the recent 3D profiles, and a comparison of original versus updated iceberg load distributions for a generic structure show a decrease in loads. Updated ILS loads are compared with other iceberg load analysis tools (Iceberg Load Assessment and the Dynamic Iceberg Impact Simulator) which directly incorporate iceberg profile data rather than relying on some of the assumptions and parametrizations used in the original ILS formulation. These comparisons show some differences, particularly for extreme loads, which are the subject of on-going investigation.</p>

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
