<p>The method-of-moments (MoM) implementation of the electric-field integral equation (EFIE) is a useful technique for numerically modeling electromagnetic scattering and radiation problems. &nbsp;Through this approach, the surface of the electromagnetic scatterer is discretized using planar or curvilinear mesh elements, and four-dimensional integrals are evaluated over two-dimensional source and test elements. &nbsp;However, the MoM implementation of the EFIE provides many code-verification challenges due to the different sources of numerical error, which arise from curved surfaces approximately represented by planar elements, the solution approximately represented by basis functions, and the numerical integration of singular, near-singular, and nonsingular integrands. &nbsp;These error sources interact in a manner that only permits certain combinations of them to be isolated for verification. &nbsp;In this presentation, we provide an approach through which we can apply the method of manufactured solutions to isolate and verify the error incurred by approximating the solution in terms of the basis functions. &nbsp;We accomplish this by manufacturing both the surface current and the Green's function. &nbsp;Because the arising equations are poorly conditioned, we reformulate them as a set of constraints for an optimization problem that selects the solution closest to the manufactured solution. &nbsp;We demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach for cases with and without coding errors.</p>

Supporting the need among researchers worldwide for additional online and multimedia content, ASME now offers the ASME Conference Video Collection. This platform will collect and provide long-term access to conference presentation videos, encompassing all technology areas within ASME's technical conference and events program. About 30,000-40,000 engineers across all mechanical engineering and related disciplines participate in ASME conferences each year. This includes authors of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 technical papers published by ASME, the majority of whom also submit video presentations for our virtual conferences. The video collection will be available as an add-on to existing product packages or as a separate subscription.
