The [2+2] cycloaddition of alkenes tethered to sulfonyl allenes represents an intriguing entree into fused cyclobutane systems. The cycloaddition behavior of a series of ene-allenes (<b>2</b>), conveniently prepared from sulfinate esters (<b>1</b>) using a literature procedure, was studied. The effects of tether characteristics on reaction kinetics and chemoselectivity are presented.
