In 2D semiconductors, the dielectric interface increases interactions between electron and hole.  Strongly bound excitons thus should dominate the optoelectronic properties of these material, including energy transport and photovoltaic performance.  We present recent results which show that the excitonic interactions of 2D semiconductors extend to colloidally grown nanoplatelets, which can be grown to mesoscale structures.  We find that energy transport within these nanoplatelets is extremely fast and efficient. Furthermore, we demonstrate the dominance of excitons in controlling the device photophysics for transition metal dichalcogenide diode junctions.  Taken together, we aim to realize mastery over excitons in 2D non-covalent and colloidally grown semiconductors.
