In the course of our ongoing efforts to expand indolizine-based chemical space, we hereby disclosed facile access to multi-functionalized indolizines in a one-pot, atom-economical, metal free, and environment-friendly manner. The <i>N</i>-substituted pyrrole-2-carboxyaldehydes-enones were utilized in a [5+1] annulative approach to novel indolizines where 2-hydroxyacetophenones participated as reaction partners. This protocol allows three distinctive substituents at the C5-7 positions of indolizine via a domino aldol-oxa Michael-Michael-elimination-oxidation procedure. Solvent (2-MeTHF) and the hydroxyl of 2-hydroxyacetophenones seemed to play important roles for this successful cyclization event.
