γ-Substituted propargyl alcohol derivatives (<b>2</b>), useful intermediates for the synthesis of α-substituted sulfonyl allenes, can be prepared by the direct alkylation of propargyl alcohol (or corresponding O-protected derivatives). Since existing literature methods vary considerably in terms of reaction conditions, an optimization study was undertaken to examine the impact of selected reaction parameters on product yield. Results from a model system are presented.
