Biocatalysis has been a key technology in pharmaceutical Process Chemistry groups for many years as the inclusion of enzymatic steps in a synthetic scheme can result in a cost-effective, efficient formation of a chiral center or a transformation done under mild, selective conditions. In recent years, Biocatalysis has been adapted by Medicinal Chemistry departments to provide synthetic intermediates and final compounds for biological testing. This talk will cover some of the ways that Pfizer’s Applied Science and Technology group has been applying enzymes to aide in accelerating both compound design and delivery across the medicinal chemistry portfolio.
