During our efforts to utilize the air-stable primary phosphine <i>ortho</i>-phosphinophenol to prepare functional 1,3-benzoxaphosholes, we have uncovered unusual dehdyrocoupling reactions that produce the unusual benzoxadiphosphole <b>1</b>. These reactions occur at room temperature and do not require transition metals to facilitate the reaction. The scope, mechanistic studies, and efforts to make reactions catalytic, will be presented.
