Multi-drug resistant microorganisms are threatening according to WHO records the survival of mankind. The quality of life, health and life-expectancy are expectedly endangered due to the rise of ESKAPE pathogens resistant to many commonly used antibiotics. Increased treatment costs and duration,even rising morbidity and mortality cases are inevitable, if new generations of drugs are not developed on time. Nanotechnology offers solutions based on especially silver nanoparticles (AgNP) with promising antimicrobial activities. Meanwhile investigations already report AgNP resistant pathogens. The solution is a combination of natural plant extracts with AgNP based on the antimicrobial synergetic mechanisms in plant biocompounds. Plants demonstrated since their existence on earth a robust survival due to phytochemicals and are utilized in many civilizations since centuries as alternative medicinal drugs. <i>Lepidium sativum L.</i> (LS) is used to treat different ailments and as antimicrobial agent. We prepared LS-AgNP and analyzed by SEM, EDS, FTIR, UV and nanosizer. The antimicrobial activites were determined by agar well and disc diffusion studies on sterile discs and surgical polyglycolic acid (PGA) sutures. LS-AgNP showed promising antimicrobial properties and can be used as disinfectant, coating agent and microbicide in the prevention of surgical site infections.
