Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are highly porous crystalline materials formed through bonds between metal-based nodes and organic linkers with multiple coordination sites. Research shows that the highly porous nature and the strong chemical stability of MOFs render them extremely effective in the absorption and neutralization of Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs). This research project focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of novel Zr-UiO-66, -67, -67.5 and -68 metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) embedded in cotton fiber materials for the neutralization of chemical warfare agents. Cotton fabric functionalized with MOFs compounds based on the Zr-UiO-66/67/675./68 structures were developed and their ability to rapidly and selectively destroy chemical warfare agents was tested.
