The purpose of this research is to determine the effectiveness of cobalt catalysts with water as the solvent in the hydrogermylation of alkynes. In a previous project, it was determined that palladium-catalyzed hydrogermylations appear to happen on top of water, with yields comparable to previously reported hydrogermylations done in THF. Studies have shown that a metal catalyst is necessary for the reaction to proceed. With recent reports indicating cyclopentadienylcobalt dicarbonyl (Co<sub>2</sub>(CO)<sub>8</sub>) is a successful catalyst for alkyne hydrogermylation, our goal was to determine whether the reaction procedures can be adopted to use cobalt instead of palladium. The yields and isomer ratios are recorded in this poster.
