Brønsted acids and bases are widely useful in industrial catalytic reactions but their procedure can lead to problematic separation processes and production of significant amounts of waste. This makes it more energy-intensive and less cost-effective processes. Moreover, it is difficult to recycle Brønsted acids or bases for reuse, which consumes higher amount of these reagents. Metal oxide nanoparticles are promising green catalysts because they are readily isolated from reaction mixtures and can be regenerated. They can be more economical, less toxic, amenable to solvent-free, and efficient and selective reactions. In this project, nanocrystalline transition metal oxides, which are important catalysts for the synthesis of medicinal, antifungal and anticancer products, are used as alternatives for the use of Brønsted acids or chalcone production bases. Essentially, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GCMS) for chalcone processing has studied the catalytic activities of metal oxides.
