Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a major source of water contamination and long-term exposure can lead to respiratory and chronic health issues. The ability to quickly and accurately detect VOCs is becoming increasingly important. This work presents the design and application of tungsten disulfide (WS2) based printable electrodes for VOC detection. First, conductive WS2 ink will be prepared for the screen printing process with the annealing condition and layer number optimized for highest conductivity. Then, the electrochemical properties of printed WS2 electrodes will be determined through four point probe testing and the resulting impedance will be further analyzed with an equivalent circuit fitting to get the true resistance. Finally, the VOC sensor will be prepared by printing the WS2 based conductive ink using the screen printing method placed above a silver interdigital electrode. The impedance data obtained in various VOC atmospheres will be evaluated with respect to the sensing properties. The results will be analyzed by electrical performance and signals of the as-fabricated screen printed electrodes to determine VOC sensitivity.
