25 years ago, we  invented highly efficient NiO/MgO solid solution catalysts for dry reforming of methane (DRM), which meet all 4 requirements of an ideal catalyst (high activity, high selectivity, excellent stability, and low cost). This has stimulated the exploration of solid solution catalysts for natural gas conversion. In this talk, the history and present status of MgO-solid solution catalysts for DRM will be discussed with emphasizing on recent progress.
