Bacteria use many different strategies to survive and grow in different environments. Some of the mechanisms by which bacteria maintain viability involve transmembrane proteins and metallo-enzyme redox processes. In recent years, we have been interested in evaluating whether these homeostasis processes could be 'hijacked' to do other tasks, for example alter the oxidation states of metals to initiate radical polymerisations. We report here our latest advances in bacteria-mediated polymerisations.
