As hybrid light-matter states, polaritons adopt new and desirable properties that are not accessible with purely matter states. Among this list is enhanced delocalization, a property that can increase the efficiency of bilayer organic photovoltaics by providing a mechanism for transporting excitations outside of the exciton diffusion limit of the absorbing material to the charge-generating donor-acceptor interface. The often fast decay of the polariton to the ground state, however, can be a significant barrier to the utilization of the hybrid light-matter properties including the enhanced delocalization. We employed femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy to address the key question of whether or not the decay pathway of the polariton through charge transfer is fast enough to outcompete the decay pathway of the polariton to the ground state in a bilayer donor-acceptor cavity system.
