Heterogeneous integration of nanostructures or nanostructure arrays presents a series of opportunities for designing and enabling various applicable platforms or devices in practice. Such an integration process involves various dissimilar nanoscale building blocks such as particles, wires, and films made of metals, ceramics, or polymers. In this talk, I will highlight our latest progress on the metal oxide and metal based structural integrations toward different chemical and energy transformation devices and systems, specifically on the nano-engineered microreactors for CO2 conversion and H2 production. These latest examples depart from our decade-long study of nanoarray based catalytic converters, nanomanufacturing, to catalytic water electrolysis, and CO2 capture and conversion into CO and methanol, forming a close-loop nanomaterials engineering roadmap for achieving eco-friendly and sustainable environment.
