Native Americans often used plants for medical purposes. This research focuses on a few of those plants that were used as treatment for common ailments. The main goal of this research was to identify the chemical composition of the essential oil extracts of Asters and wild flowers native to the Ozarks region and to analyze them for antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Gas Chromatography Mass-Spectrometry (GC/MS) was utilized to determine the chemical composition of the essential oil extract. Antioxidant activity of the essential oil extracts was determined by the DPPH method. A bacterial MIC test was used to determine the antibacterial properties of the essential oil extracts.
