The ability for nickel to access odd oxidation states has enabled many novel catalytic reactions. Many such reactions employ bipyridine ligands and invoke Ni(I) species as key catalytic intermediates, although studies of such species are scarce. We present the synthesis of a well-defined Ni(I) complex bearing a bipyridine ligand, and our study of its reactivity.
