The known compound [TpmW(CO)3I]&lt;span style="font-size:10.8333px"&gt;I&lt;/span&gt; (Tpm = tris(pyrazolyl)methane) was synthesized by the reaction of elemental iodine with TpmW(CO)3. By using two equivalents of elemental iodine the similar complex [TpmW(CO)3I]I3 was synthesized. A comparison of the chemical shifts of the hydrogen on the central sp3 hybridized carbon of the Tpm ligand (HC(pz)3) showed a nearly one and a half ppm chemical shift difference between the two compounds in CD2Cl2. Through counterion metathesis [TpmW(CO)3I]BPh4 and [TpmW(CO)3I]OTf were synthesized and characterized by NMR and showed large differences in the chemical shift of the central hydrogen as well. The large chemical shift differences were dependent on the identity of the counterion and have been attributed to hydrogen bonding between the coordinated Tpm ligand and the counterion.
