The appearance of chemistry and mathematics courses simultaneously on an undergraduate student’s schedule can be frightening, but developing strong roots in mathematics leads to increased understanding in upper-level chemistry courses, and vice versa. This poster presents exercises that illustrate the connections between mathematics and introductory chemistry courses, with a special emphasis on calculus. The exercises were created to expose students early in their undergraduate careers and to inspire them to study further in mathematics beyond the courses required for the chemistry major.
