Traditional Sonogashira reaction requires both a palladium catalyst and a copper co-catalyst, and examples promoted by single transition metals are rare. We have achieved enantioselective construction of C(sp3)-C(sp) bond via a single nickel-catalyzed tandem Heck-Sonogashira annulation/alkynylation. In addition, Sonogashira C(sp2)-C(sp) cross-coupling has been conducted in the same catalytic system.
