Responding to climate change requires attention to both mitigation and adaptation strategies – reducing the causes of climate change to minimize future climate change and modifying our habits to adjust to climate change that has already occurred. Technology development and transfer supports action on both fronts. Technology for mitigation includes, but is not limited to, low-carbon transportation solutions, advanced renewable energy platforms, carbon capture and storage systems, and climate-smart agriculture. For adaptation, technology-based solutions take forms such as climate resistant infrastructure, weather pattern hazard risk mapping, wetland restoration, beach nourishment, and water supply management systems. In 2010, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 16<sup>th</sup> Conference of Parties (COP16) established The Technology Mechanism, comprised of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN). TEC, the policy recommendation arm, and CTCN, the development and transfer implementation arm, both provide a joint annual report to COP. This presentation will provide background to and highlight Technology Mechanism updates from COP26, held in Glasgow, Scotland in November of 2021.
