The Forensic Chemistry Division was the second division created in the ACS student chapter at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, Ponce Campus. We are dedicated to combining chemical methods and research techniques to the field of Forensic Science. During the pasts academic years, we conducted different demonstrations, on campus and in schools, where we would apply forensic chemistry skills and explain them as they are being executed. During these visits, we would act out staged crime scenes; where we enacted the demonstrations needed to explain procedures within Forensic Science. To make it interactive, we would select different students to help perform our demos. Last year, as we all know, the world was struck by a global pandemic that left us all on lockdown, away from the normal interactions we had become accustomed to. Because of this situation, we focused on the professional development of our members. In order to achieve that goal, a variety of virtual workshops were performed. Two of these workshops were personal defense and cadaver identification in crime scenes. Community service is also an important part of our development as responsible members of our society. For that reason, we collected items of personal hygiene and toys for children of a local orphanage. A new bachelor program in Applied Chemistry is now available with a sub concentration in Forensic Chemistry in our campus. As a Forensic Chemistry Division, we will contribute to the promotion and recruitment of new students for this program. As a division, we are committed to representing our institution proudly, and honestly.
