A major theme of our research program focuses on elucidating the structure, spectroscopy, and photochemistry of organic molecules that may be considered, for one reason or another, to be important.  For 25 years, John Stanton’s fingerprints have been all over these studies.  John and his students repeatedly bailed us out of daunting problems involving the electronic structure of open-shell organic reactive intermediates, the analysis and interpretation of rotational spectra, and the prediction of molecular structure at the highest-available levels of theory.  In addition to his own, direct contributions to these collaborative research projects, John’s engagement with our group fostered a basic understanding of electronic structure theory and computational chemistry.  More generally, John fosters a sense of camaraderie within the scientific community.  I will present case studies that exemplify how our research collaboration, involving experiment and theory, bridges the disciplines of physical-organic chemistry and chemical physics.
