The intricate molecular nanotechnology found in nature is enabled by highly sophisticated biopolymers. These macromolecules display a myriad of functions encoded by their sequence. The functional spectrum of sequence polymers could be extended to non-aqueous media by creating abiotic analogues.<br/>Our work focuses on building oligomers equipped with recognition groups that form base-pairs by hydrogen-bonding, thereby forming length-complementary duplexes. By analogy to DNA origami, programmable assembly of these duplexes could allow us to create complex supramolecular architectures.<br/>In this talk we will present the DNA-inspired design, synthesis and characterisation of a melamine-based oligomer composed of repeating triazine-piperazine units appended with phenol and phosphine oxide side chains. We will demonstrate their ability to form sequence-selective duplexes with high fidelity as characterised by ITC and NMR titration experiments.
